THE ROLE

Special Projects Producer at News 9 helps drive the “Ideal Team Player” culture. As a Special Projects Producer, you will produce, write and coordinate shoots for Targeted Special Reports and occasional 30-minute, 60-minute or 120-minute special broadcasts. Assist in researching and assigning Targeted Special Reports, offer story ideas and maintain the Special Projects calendar. Write stories, requests appropriate graphics, pre-production and work with art department and production department.

 

Research news, monitor video news feeds, make needed phone calls to obtain information for stories. Build special newscast lineups, organize stories, determine amount of time and treatment for each and stay in contact with reporters to get status of their stories. Stay abreast of current local, national, and international events.  Know history, geography and unique aspects of local area.  Comprehend local, state, and national politics. Write news stories, teases and promos, proof read reporter packages for content and grammar ensuring news meets legal and journalistic standards as well as the time allotted.

 

Work with editors on video requests, coordinate with director on the final line-up, number the lineup and print it.  Add any late breaking news killing stories as needed, communicate with anchors about line-up and any last-minute changes. Perform actual timing of newscast while in progress; provide live technical direction and reorganization when necessary communicating with the director, audio, floor crew, and tape operator.  Communicating clearly to the anchors through IFB. Coordinate live remote shots as well as satellite shots.

 

Formal education equivalent of BS degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field.  One year of progressively responsible experience in a television newsroom preferred. Link of work and writing samples required.

This is a Full-Time position. Must be flexible to schedule changes.
