JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for creating daily promotional content for various newscasts, including but not limited to topicals, teases, snipes, app notifications and cold opens. Candidates should have strong writing skills, sound news judgment, experience with non-linear editing and graphic overlays. The News Topical Producer will coordinate frequently with members of the content, marketing and production departments.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  Attend daily editorial meetings. Develop original and unique script concepts, taking into account station branding goals, target audience and desired impact, using a variety of writing styles; exhibit versatility and appropriateness in promotion tone and style.  Write under deadline pressure and in short-term situations.  Produce material at a competitive quality for marketplace. Write news teases and promos using correct grammar ensuring the copy meets legal and journalistic standards as well as the time allotted.

 

Interface with Director of Content, Executive Producer and Director of Marketing to develop strategic campaigns and other promotion for designated brands.  Campaigns will be developed in accordance and with understanding of station research, brand and strategic goals.

 

Demonstrate good aesthetic judgment in use of best video shots or sound bites, compelling writing and content selection. Clearly identify and articulate selling points.  Demonstrate awareness of and act in accordance with audience sensitivities (offensive language, overt violence, race, gender, nudity, etc.).

 

SKILLS: Must be organized with exceptional attention to detail skills. Must have effective communication skills and knowledge of journalistic standards. Advanced knowledge of non-linear editing preferred as well as the ability to learn new systems. Videography experience preferred, but not required. Effective oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality.

 

EDUCATION: Formal education equivalent of BS degree in Marketing, Broadcast Communications, Journalism or related field.  Related experience will be evaluated by Company management and may be substituted on the basis of two years of experience equals one year of education. At least one year of progressively responsible experience in news or marketing preferred. Writing and non-linear editing samples required.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:   This position may require the operation of a company vehicle or personal vehicle for company use, a copy of a current driving record must be provided with the employment application.
