THE ROLE

Producer Reporter at News on 6 helps drive the “Ideal Team Player” culture. As a Producer Reporter, duties include produce the line-up and layout of assigned newscasts. Gather, write and perform on-air presentation of stories. Maintain awareness of current events. Research news, monitor video news feeds, make needed calls to obtain information for the newscast stories, start building newscast lineups, organize stories, determine amount of time and treatment for each story. Stay abreast of current local, national, and international events. Know history, geography and unique aspects of local area.  Comprehend local, state, and national politics. Work with editors on video requests, coordinate with director on the final line-up, number the lineup and print it. Add any late breaking news killing stories as needed, communicate with anchors about line-up and any last-minute changes. Perform actual timing of newscast while in progress; provide live technical direction and reorganization when necessary communicating with the director, audio, floor crew, and tape operator.  Communicating clearly to the anchors through IFB. Coordinate live remote shots as well as satellite shots.

One year of progressively responsible experience in a television newsroom preferred. Knowledge of journalistic standards. Ability to establish and work within program format. Accurate and comprehensive writing skills as well as good communication skills.  Ability to make quick and appropriate decisions and gain the cooperation of others. Knowledge of personal computers and ability to learn new systems.

 

BS degree in Journalism, Communications or related field required. Link of work and writing samples required.
