Phil Stone and Brent Douglas Named to 2027 Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame
Legendary KMOD morning team behind Roy D. Mercer to be honored for their lasting impact on Oklahoma broadcasting
OAB is proud to announce Phil Stone and Brent Douglas, the legendary Tulsa radio team known simply as “Phil & Brent,” as the newest members of the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame Class of 2027.
For nearly 27 years, Phil & Brent entertained Oklahoma listeners as hosts of the KMOD Morning Zoo, building one of the most successful and recognizable morning radio programs in the state. At the height of their popularity, their strong ratings and unique brand of humor attracted an audience that extended well beyond traditional rock radio listeners.
Their creativity produced countless memorable comedy sketches and characters, but none became more famous than Roy D. Mercer, the fictional prank-calling character created by Stone and Douglas and voiced by Douglas.
Roy D. Mercer grew from a Tulsa radio comedy bit into a nationally recognized phenomenon. Phil & Brent’s Roy D. Mercer recordings were eventually released as comedy albums and introduced their unmistakably Oklahoma style of humor to audiences throughout the country.
“There are certain broadcasters who become more than voices on the radio. They become part of the lives and memories of their listeners. Phil Stone and Brent Douglas did exactly that. For nearly three decades, they made Oklahoma laugh, built an incredibly loyal audience and created comedy that reached far beyond Tulsa. For generations of listeners, all it took was hearing, ‘How big a boy are ya?’ and you knew exactly who was on the other end of the phone. Roy D. Mercer became a radio legend, but the real magic was always Phil and Brent. Their talent, chemistry, creativity and originality left a lasting mark on Oklahoma broadcasting, and we are incredibly proud to welcome them into the OAB Hall of Fame.”

Phil & Brent’s success was rooted in a chemistry that could not have been scripted. Douglas initially contributed celebrity impressions and comedy to the show while working as a pharmacist. When the opportunity came to join Stone full time, Douglas took a chance on radio, beginning a partnership that would ultimately become part of Oklahoma broadcasting history.
Together, Stone and Douglas developed a style of personality-driven morning radio built around quick wit, memorable characters, comedy and a genuine connection with their audience.
The pair received the Tulsa Press Club Radio Icon Award in 2005 and earned numerous Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters morning show personality nominations during their career.
Their induction into the OAB Hall of Fame recognizes not only the success of Phil & Brent, but also their creativity, influence on Oklahoma radio and the connection they established with generations of listeners.
