OAB Hall of Fame Member Jim Hartz, 1940-2022

Jim Hartz was a “Natural Broadcaster” who was an incredible reporter, producer, writer, and anchor/talent. Starting at KRMG in the late sixties, Jim transitioned to television at KOTV in Tulsa. His success there landed him the Anchor job at WNBC TV in New York, where for ten years they were a dominant television station. Jim then rose through the network ranks and became a Today Show host with Barbara Walters, then an NBC correspondent before moving over to the PBS network for 15 years.

Throughout his illustrious career, Jim’s professional news instincts and his relatable personality gave viewers throughout the country a sense that they were getting credible news from a trustworthy man. A graduate of the University of Tulsa, Jim represented Oklahoma in what we now call the “Oklahoma Standard.”

Jim Hartz was inducted into the OAB Hall of Fame in 1995.
