The General Health of Our Industry


The last three to five years have seen unprecedented changes to the media eco-system and many wonder, “How will Broadcasting compete against this wave of technology?” While it is undeniable that we face significant challenges, we also have gained tremendous opportunities and we must take advantage of those to thrive going forward.

A few thoughts on how to thrive:

  • We are best when we are LOCAL: Virtually all competing technologies are NATIONAL in nature. That means they compete against each other and we can EXCELL at being LOCAL.
  • We are best when we innovate. Given we already have a successful Megaphone, use that reach to innovate into arenas that need local revenue to monetize our success. Current examples in Oklahoma that are winning big-time are:
    1) Local Digital platforms that move the needle
    2) Video Streaming of H.S. Sports and other community events
    3) Outdoor opportunities in your community
    4) Event marketing management.

    In each of these cases, your Megaphone drives your success with your Local sales team.

Ultimately, our strongest suit is that we are a media defined by ONE-TO-MANY. That means we have always had immediate scale and if our content is compelling, many will listen to and view our programming.
